been plenty distracted with my new jobber... which has kept me from working on more fundraising at the moment. Rightnow I feel quite in the dumps about not raising more right now.

But this I do know. The job is way important to me. Its really really key to helping me be the best person I can be. I think people tend to take for granted that a job is is a job is a money maker and pays for bills. I'm lucky. I get paid for finally doing stuff that I enjoy, that I learn and grow from.

But right there in second place is this Walk. I'm so looking forward to participating in this event. I know its going to be one of the most fufilling experiences in my life. So I am aiming high with the $5000 goal. If it comes down to it, I want more than a mere $5000. Sure, what I really really want is to get the minimum 1800$ so I can participate. I want to be able to promote awareness about Breast Cancer. I want to be able to raise some money towards a good cause. I want to use this as motivation to talk to old friends and rebuild some bridges I mights torched. I want to build up my health and staminia. I want the sense of accomplishment when I cross the line. eh. much more than money, I think.

ok, good, I think I talked myself up a bit...

Non money goals for February:
- get three volunteers signed up for the Walk
- 10 miles on the treadmill
- volunteer at the Avon Walk office at least once this month

still...can't forget the cash.. YAY! I got a donation today!

Oh and I don't believe I hadn't post it here... from MKs Avon Walk page!

Please join me on Friday, February 13th for An Evening with Kitty Mortland: Live and Unplugged at Big City Swing Studio, 1012 W. Randolph. I will be performing songs from my upcoming album "Hamburg," as well as some tried and true cover songs all in honor/protest of Valentine's Day. What better way to spend Valentine's Day Eve than listening to folky chick music, right? Though I do have a few nice, sincere love songs in my catalog for those of you who have found that special someone.

The evening will include coffee, water, little snackies, and a few special guest appearances (Mr. Tom Beeyachski, himself, for example), so you are going to want to make sure you don't miss this event!

Admission is a mere TEN DOLLARS and doors open at 8:30pm. All proceeds from the event will be put towards my fundraising goal for the walk.

Couple of quick things to mention: the location is a dance studio, so there aren't a whole lot of chairs. If you want to bring a folding chair or a picnic blanket so you can pretend you're at Ravinia, but inside, feel free. Also, if you want anything to drink besides coffee and water (read: alcohol), you must be of legal age, and you're going to have to bring it yourself. Oh, and there will be some adult language used in some of the songs.

But come on out! Bring your friends! Bring your neighbors! Bring your friend's neighbors and your neighbor's friends! And thank you thank you thank you for your support!!!

poor excuse

I've really NO excuse... tho it is freezing out there.. I've access to a perfectly good gym with all kinds of treadmills and junk for FREE! *sigh* I'm leavin'...

Tho I did walk around Michigan Avenue and the Loop for most of the day yesterday - in the cold. For the Komen.org event. More on that later, I'm out to go back in!

flop

First fundraiser was a bit of a flop. I was on my merry way to Fizz to get my fundraising on when BAM! the front driver's wheel of my pops' car blew out. Seriously. But I didn't hear the BAM! I felt the steering wheel jerk left but I didn't realize what was really wrong until I smelt the burnt rubber. I pulled the car to the side of the road and found the phatty tire completely blown out. The big black tire was barely on the bright rim.

So I sat about 6 blocks away from Fizz waited for an hour for someone with my pops' insurance to help me change the tire. *sigh* by the time I got there I was wiped and there was only about another hour of dancing. I put my brass collection box out there with my AvonWalk cards anyways. I don't think I got a dime. *sigh*

Well, as I sat waiting for the guy to complement me on the"sweet ride" and change my tire. I pondered more about better organizing this kind of event. So not all was wasted.

First and Monthly Fundraiser

So I'm looking forward to finally getting out there and getting me some change for this cause. I got this great idea from Rachakate. Very simply, a coin drive at Fizz tonight and every first Monday of the month! People have change. Some that they don't use right away. Some that could go towards a great cause.

She'd also stressed, at the time, that this is a good oppurtunity to talk to alot of people that you hadn't spoken to in a long time. What an interesting exercise in relationship therapy. And it works!
